Seven Deadly Sins of Journalism
"Seven Deadly Sins of Journalism" is an exploration into the fundamental flaws that can compromise the integrity of news organizations. This work originated as an assignment under the guidance of Dr. Swathi Shivanand, where we were encouraged to delve into the insightful critiques of media by thinkers like Noam Chomsky, Edward S. Herman (through the Propaganda Model), Paranjoy Guha-Thakurta, Sevanti Ninan, Robin Jeffrey, and P. Sainath.
Inspired by their work, I explored seven critical areas, ranging from the impact of commercialization and sensationalism to the dangers of biased reporting, unhealthy alliances, and the neglect of crucial investigative work. My creative approach was to represent these 'sins' through the imagery of Tarot cards – a choice that began aesthetically but deepened in meaning as I developed the concept with my professors.
My hope in sharing this now is to contribute to the ongoing conversation about media accountability and ethics. Understanding these potential pitfalls is essential for both news producers and consumers, especially when navigating complex and sensitive events.

This was for Surbhi Jain's Godh Bharai function, a ritual of immense joy in Marwadi Families. We designed a special Godh Bharai themed Tambola card for the function as well.
